Through showing intellectually competency, religious attitudes, and commitment to justice, Golda Meir is a profound example of an Ignatian leader. Over the course of her lifetime, Meir was able to promote her intelligence, her beliefs, and her just ideals in order to create a better society for those around her. Golda Meir, who lived from May 3, 1898 to December 3,1978, was most famously known for being a Zionist Labor leader. She served as a foreign minister in Israel from 1956 to 1966. Later in 1969, she became the fourth prime minister in Israel to lead her people. Meir’s parents were Moshe and Bluma Mabovitch who raised her as their daughter in Kiev, Ukraine. She came back to Israel in return and was then responsible for social insurance. Therefore, Meir had gained her own four-year term as prime minister because of the support of her people. This period of time was made note by the efforts Meir persued to gain aid from the United States in the form of economy reinforcement and military support. On May 14, 1948, Golda Meir had become on of the thirty-eight signers the Proclamation of Independence in Israel, which was a huge step for the country. The independence of Israel was one of the most noted events in Jewish culture. Even though Golda Meir appeared very simple - dressing very simply, always hating makeup, and always wearing her hair neatly tucked into a bun - she clearly had a signficant amount of impact on the world. Just after the independence being made of Israel, on the following day in fact, seven Arab nations had already declared war against Israel and had already began invading the country’s borders. In January of 1949, Meir was still in Moscow, which is where she fortunately had received news that Israel had won the war. The new state had lost 4,486 soldiers and more than 2,000 civilians, but it had gained new territory, which also included half of Jerusalem, which was a huge deal for Golda Meir and the people of her culture.
